Also managed to remove the two starboard hull runner strips (I'm sure they must have a name, I just don't know it) - I did this because it was really hard to sand the edges and secondly I wanted to check for rot beneath them. Its a good job I did, the outer runner had a fracture in the plywood about 100mm long plus they were only secured with rusty screws.
I'm going to sand them all down and bond them back onto the hull with West epoxy 105:205, this will hopefully repair the fracture in the plywood as well as provide a watertight joint between the runner and the hull.
