TRAILER

Just some pictures to show the current state of the trailer

Overall it looks structurally sound and it's only surface rust, a good a wire brush and lick of hammerite should sort it out

NAME AND COLOURS

Made two important decisions today, the name and the colour.

The name comes from my two daughter's nicknames "Chubba" and "Bubba", I have been looking at fonts and designs and at the moment this is my favourite

The hull colour will be blue (Raphsody Blue from the Blake Enamel range) above the waterline, and white below it.

DAY FOUR

More sanding today, probably another 3 hours or so!

Also managed to remove the two starboard hull runner strips (I'm sure they must have a name, I just don't know it) - I did this because it was really hard to sand the edges and secondly I wanted to check for rot beneath them. Its a good job I did, the outer runner had a fracture in the plywood about 100mm long plus they were only secured with rusty screws.

I'm going to sand them all down and bond them back onto the hull with West epoxy 105:205, this will hopefully repair the fracture in the plywood as well as provide a watertight joint between the runner and the hull.

IT'S A HERON

Well after some great advice from forum members on YBW, it looks like she is a HERON
http://www.heron-dinghy.org.uk/

I've compared the measurements and pictures and I'm pretty certain it's a Heron, so much so I've subscribed to their membership, and when I get access to the technical documents I'll check further but I'm 99% sure!

DAY THREE

Just a quick note, another 3 hours sanding today. Managed to get most of the top coat off, just left with the fiddly bits around the keel strips.

DAY TWO - SANDING

So out came the sander (early xmas present, thanks mum!), and after about 5 hours hard graft she is looking much better

DAY TWO

With nothing done at all, this is a view from both ends of the dinghy.

I managed to take some rough measurements, from bow to stern she is 3470mm and at the widest point the beam is approx. 1400mm. The beam at the stern is 1100mm.

Still don't know what type of dinghy it is, although it does have some similarities to a GP14 but she's two small I think

DAY ONE

So the dinghy has arrived, after a much protracted series of events I finally arranged for my brother-in-law (Cheers Mike!) to pick up the dinghy (also thanks to Marky for making himself available). It was dark (and wet) when I got home so moving the dinghy to the side of the wasn't ideal but we got there in the end.

I haven't been able to have a good look at her yet - I couldn't even find the a decent torch to check her out! Someone, not mentioning any names (Jess and Ella) have relocated it; no doubt it will turn amongst the barbie dolls when I least expect it. So reluctantly I just put her to bed under a nice new tarpaulin! Still I'm off Thursday and as long as it's not piddling down I can have a good look,
